We are pleased to announce that we have received the first batch of iLaunch Wireless Launch Controller (#89383) production units!
After extensive testing with production samples, we have discovered that although AA size standard lithium batteries work with the iLaunch Controller consistently when igniting FirstFire Micro and Mini initiators, reliably igniting FirstFire Jr. and regular FirstFire initiators has been marginal at best. We had several no-fire events with these initiators using the AA size standard lithium batteries.
We have determined that the use of inexpensive, higher-voltage AA size 3.2 Volt, LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) rechargeable batteries delivers excellent performance in igniting all 4 sizes of FirstFire initiators. These lithium iron phosphate batteries and chargers are available from some hobby retailers and on Amazon and AeroTech at the following links:
An additional firmware update will be necessary to accommodate the higher voltage lithium iron phosphate batteries. This can be easily done through the app when the customer initially uses their iLaunch Controller. A special label has also been added to the iLaunch retail display clamshell package recommending the lithium iron phosphate rechargeable batteries and where to get them.
These developments have resulted in significantly improved performance of our new iLaunch Wireless Launch Controller. Currently, it appears that the inexpensive, AA size 3.2 Volt, lithium iron phosphate rechargeable batteries will deliver up to 1,000 launchings on a single charge.
AeroTech/Quest will be sourcing and stocking these lithium iron phosphate rechargeable batteries and chargers for distribution to our hobby distributors and retailers as soon as possible. We will be shipping the iLaunch Wireless Launch Controller shortly so you will have it for the holiday season.
